Chiropractor and Strength Coach for

Firefighter Fitness. Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company

Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company

I'm Joe Lacava, the founder of Health Culture, which I opened
in 2023. My journey in the health and fitness industry began much
earlier, as a Chiropractor since 2012 and later as an NSCA Certified
Strength and Conditioning Specialist
from 2018.

My initial career as a chiropractor focused on incorporating the chiropractic adjustment into a comprehensive care plan involving therapeutic massage and therapeutic exercise.  Over time, I realized that my true passion was for creating and coaching therapeutically directed training and rehabilitation systems.

This led to the creation of Health Culture, born from a commitment to
develop a distinctive approach to wellness that prioritizes active
healing and personalized coaching.  The chiropractic adjustment and therapeutic massage are useful tools.  I continue to leverage them toward the dual goals temporary pain relief and facilitating pain free exercise.  But Health Culture is about empowering you to invest in your health rather than becoming dependent upon me to bestow it unto you.

I've taken the education I received through my Doctorate of Chiropractic program and combined it with my experiences of learning from the absolute best coaches in the industry while working at a premier health club.  This deep understanding of human physiology and
high level of coaching experience has allowed me to open Health Culture right here in Ambler, PA.  Here, it’s all about creating a system which helps you to better realize the vision that you have for your life.

When I am not training at Health Culture I teach Anatomy, Palpation and

assessment skills at Thomas Jefferson University.

I have two young children at home and I am doing my best to raise them alongside my wife.  The time I get to enjoy with them is interrupted only in those unpredictable moments when I am called to serve as a  firefighter with Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company.

I've been working with Joe for over a year now, and he's helped me tremendously with joint problems that have prevented me from exercising in the past. He has a tiny yet effective exercise for EVERY problem. He asks lots of questions, is very attentive and customizes my training program according to my goals and needs. I've never been stronger! He is also very skilled as a chiropractor and has helped relieve a lot of back pain I often experience. What's more, Joe is a fun person to be around! He's easy to talk to, has a great sense of humor, and I always enjoy our sessions.

I’ve been working with Dr. Joe as my personal trainer since 2019 when I met him at a local athletic club. Other than biking in season I had never worked out regularly before and had a challenging history of health issues. I had recently retired and was looking to engage a personal trainer who would help me prepare for and sustain a healthy retirement. I needed someone who had a deep knowledge of body systems, experience choosing appropriate exercises and customizing workout plans, and could appreciate and adapt workout plans to my medical history.

Over the years I’ve been working with Dr. Joe to meet my goals, I’ve come to appreciate his approach of using free weights (versus machines) to engage more muscles and promote functional fitness. For me, he has also emphasized heavier weights with fewer reps to build muscles and strength. And Dr. Joe offers several value-adds that you’ll never get from the internet or a fitness app

My time with Dr. Joe was short, but in that short amount of time, he helped me get back into sports from decades of irritating knee pain. Not only did he help me get back into sports, but the education that you learn from him also makes it worth it. Your body is a mystery in a lot of ways, but Dr. Joe trains and teaches you to use your whole body the right way.

  • Can I buy one session to see if I like it?
Our first session must be a no-cost consultation. The consultation is extremely important because its a conversation which we will use to both mutually decide that I can help you reach your dream state and then formulate the system to do so. Even if someone wanted to purchase 20 sessions right from the website I wouldn’t be able to use any of those sessions to help them because we haven’t laid out their needs, goals, wants and developed a plan for how to fulfill and achieve those things.
  • Can I just pay for one session at a time as we go?
I am unable to work on a session by session basis because I am not simply providing an hour’s worth of difficult, sweaty, breathless work. I will provide you a complete system built around and focused upon your stated goals. This means that the workout is not the product, you achieving your dream state is the product. This is why I choose to work in terms of session packages. We are going to come up with a system that will get you to your dream state and the number of sessions it will take to get there.
  • Will there be other trainers or clients around?
No, because of the individualized, client-focused nature of my work I exclusively work in 1:1, individual coaching sessions. You will be the only one in the space for your session, you will have privacy and you will have all of my attention.
  • Am I going to have to go to “boot camp” in order to get results?
Health Culture doesn’t work through short bursts of frenzied energy. This is a consistent, comprehensive system in order to help you implement the life, habit and activity changes you need in order to achieve your dream state and live the life you’ve designed for yourself. I am going to coach you. I am going to guide you. In some cases I may teach you. There is no value in me yelling at you.
  • Can training actually help even though I…?
I attained my Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2018. However, I earned my Doctorate and Board Certification in Chiropractic in 2012. And although I no longer practice chiropractic my license is still active and I retain the biomedical education I gained through schooling. I use that information to serve as a better Strength Coach. I continue to work with patients with neurological conditions including Guillian-Barre Syndrome, post-stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis. Regardless of what you bring into your training routine you should still expect a reasonable path to your dream state. Through our consultation we will design the plan that will get you there.
  • Am I too old to start a fitness routine?
Its a sad fact that, culturally speaking, we tend to believe that fitness and running around and breathing heavy are only for little kids and aspiring college athletes. The fact of the matter is that there is no such thing as “too late” to start getting active. Despite beliefs that chronic pain and dysfunction are foregone conclusions of the aging process there is no good evidence to show that pain is associated with biological age. Getting active is both helpful and healthful at every age in life.
